nitrous oxide on rat fertility and pregnancy
نویسنده
چکیده
High incidences of cancer, hepatic disease, renal disease, spontaneous abortion, premature delivery, and congenital deformities in their offspring have been reported amongst operation-room personnel. These conditions have been attributed to their exposure to anesthetic gases. Dentists who are exposed to anesthetic gases are also reported to have high incidences of these diseases. While nitrous oxide is the only anesthetic gas to which most dentists are exposed, they are exposed to ldgh concentrations because of patients’ open mouths, recirculating air conditioning and high flow rates. Wistar-Lewis inbred rats were exposed to 70 percent nitrous oxide and oxygen two hours each day for 30 days. After the thirtieth day, various matings were made between experimental and control animals. The results of these matings showed that this chronic intermittent dose had no effect on their reproductive capacity or on their offspring. A histologic examination of the gonads of the rats exposed to nitrous oxide failed to show microscopic changes reported by other investigators when rats were continuously exposed.

Shift work, nitrous oxide exposure and subfertility among Swedish midwives.
BACKGROUND Shift work and nitrous oxide exposure have both been suspected of having adverse influence on the reproductive performance of health workers. Time to pregnancy has been suggested as a sensitive measure of fecundity in occupationally exposed groups. We investigated the effects of shift work and nitrous oxide exposure on the fertility of Swedish midwives. METHODS A questionnaire was ...

The Sprague-Dawley rat was used to demonstrate the effect of nitrous oxide, with and without folinic pretreatment, on reproductive indices and fetal development. One of the objectives of the investigation was to test the hypothesis that at least some of the teratogenic effect of nitrous oxide is related to interference with folate metabolism. Groups of animals were exposed to 70-75% nitrous oxi...

Five groups of 12 gravid female rats were exposed, during their entire gestation, intermittently for 6 h a day, 5 days per week, to 0.5% (5000 p.p.m.), 0.1% (1000 p.p.m.), 0.05% (500 p.p.m.) and 0.025% (250 p.p.m.) nitrous oxide-air mixtures (v/v), respectively. After killing the gravid rats on the 19th day of their pregnancies the numbers of corpora lutea of pregnancy were counted. Each uterus...

متن کاملP110: Nitrous Oxide and Neuroinflammation
Nitrous oxide was an anaesthetic gas that was used for many years. There were many anaesthetic drugs in operations with many side effects. Nitrous oxide had some side effects too. But it was a safe gas in many times. In hospital personnel who worked in operating rooms exposure to this gas was important. The objective of this study was the introduction of nitrous oxide and neurologic side ...
